Laser cut samples

These are a few images of laser cut samples I've done at uni using a simple butterfly shape I'd drawn in my research and some wings made from devore, discharge and screen print samples to create layers and texture, this research project is soon coming to an end before we re start it and take it through to developmental stages and making decisions for summer exhibtion. I have experimented with laser cut areas on different surfaces as I would liketo incorporate a 3d interactive element to my wallpapers and interior pieces.

Screen prints!

These are some of the screen print samples I have done using black ink to print to emphaise the print and detail over the many textured and patterned papers. Some of these prints were done on a plain calico yet I have added my colour palette using procien dyes.

Origami Pieces

Still in the developmental part of the project, I've been researching interactive wallpaper and 3d wallpaper as I'd like to incorporate these into my final pieces when start preparing for exhibtion next year. In weeks to come I will begin to experiment with laser cut areas within prints when I can get my screens done but at the moment I've been creating some mono prints and origami butterflies shown below.

( or have fun in class! ) Each of us have the same passion for textile design but different styles and inspirations and with out a doubt help eachother along the way! xxxx :)

Drawing Drawing and more Drawings !

To start myself off I need a good bulk of drawings to work with before starting to incorporate print, bits of stitch and I would like to work with the laser cutter too within this project. I plan on taking all these processes into CAD and manipulating my work further through photoshop (well thats the plan!) so I need to keep the drawings coming at the moment untill I feel I have enough to work with to then take through to developmental processes/ steps to create eye catching repeats!  Below are a few scanned in images of my drawings from my on going sketch book. I like to experiment with different drawing techniques to create many mark makings and abstract images to support my title of Decorative Butterfly Forms which wont nessessarily reflect the typical butterfly shape but focusing more on the patterns and detail within.
Here I have used a dip pen, ink, bleach and water and layered the drawing twice over and cutting out areas
Above I have used procien dyes for bright flashes of colour with fine linears and ink to create more detail and blending with water and again bleach for highlighted areas.
This is a simple linear drawing and filled with watercolour paints

I may not go onto using each full drawing or eveyone one I do but take certain shapes and areas through to development.

100% Design and Tent London Pics

Had the most amazing time in London at the weekend the day was very rushed and jam packed but got to the exhibitions I wanted to! Both 100% Design and Tent London have opened my eyes to new ideas and inspirations and I can't wait to get started on my new project this year. I met Claire Coles and Abigail Borg! Designers work I've admirred and taken inspiration from for years! Here are a few photos I took at both exhibitions with permission from each designer/company -
